This week we’re proud to announce our partnership with WHOOP. For those of you who already know who they are, we won’t have to tell you what a great tool this will be for your training and tracking of all your performance and recovery data. For those who don’t know, let us run you through why we chose to partner with these guys.

This wearable device is one of the best ways we’ve ever found to track training, recovery and sleep. This means that we get daily non-biased feedback on how the body is dealing with everything we’re throwing at it. Let’s have a look at some of the key areas of how it all works.

You’ll have your own personal sleep coach after a few days of tracking your sleep, yes, you will wear the tiny band on your wrist all day and night. Sleep is one of the most important things you can do to improve recovery, boost the immune system, and continue to improve your performance in your training. You will get recommendations on hours of sleep needed for optimal recovery and it tracks sleep stages, disturbances, respiratory rate, and more. You will see that the amount of sleep you need will change depending on your daily output, be that work, training, lifestyle or stress, and if you don’t monitor your sleep and the “sleep-debt” you are creating, you won’t be able to perform at optimum in any of the fore-mentioned areas.

The device will collect real-time data on heart rate variability (HRV – the time difference between each heartbeat; a key indicator of training adaptation and overall health), resting heart rate (measured every night during deep sleep for consistency), and sleep performance, from there you will get a rating % out of 0 – 100 on where you sit in terms of your body’s ability to take on the days training. Now, this data point is not only there to measure training stress but is also a great indicator to see if you have slept well, if you are stressed at work/home or if you are starting to get run down and tracks your recovery during the times you may be injured as well.

WHOOP also has the ability to track you live in your sessions giving you real-time feedback on your “STRAIN” (a measure of cardiovascular exertion) and on your percentage of Heart Rate that you are sitting in (perfect for the IWT / ESD sessions). It also tracks calories which is important to note as you need to know how much to replace in order to refuel so you can attack the next day with the best possible chance. One of the other great bits we like about this device is you get to set up your own personal daily questionnaire, allowing you to check things off that you choose to focus on, like hydration, sleep, stress and a variety of others that you can personalise. What’s great about this feature is that it gives you even more specific and accurate data on where you can add value to your training.
